Movement Map

Advisor movement can be local. See what IAR registration-change activity looked like in your state over the last 12 months - which firms gained registrations, which lost registrations, and which firm-to-firm routes repeated locally.

These reports are based on public U.S. SEC IAPD IAR registration changes. Advisors registered only as brokers are not included. Because IAR registration changes can include non-producing, supervisory, home-office, or administrative registrants, figures should be read as directional movement records, not audited counts of producing advisor transitions.
This map shows movement volume, not movement rate. Larger states naturally show more activity because they have more registered advisors. State reflects the best available branch or location data on the registration record and may not capture where the advisor's clients are located.
How to read the map

Start local. Keep the volume in context.

Choose a market to see local gainers, local losses, recurring routes, and monthly timing. Color shows absolute movement volume - not a state-level churn rate.

Shading shows absolute reported moves, so populous states lead. A future version may add movement-rate views when reliable firm-level headcount data is available.

The map shows where movement is. Your move is about where you belong.

MethodologySource, scope, and limitationsRead details
State
The state of the moving IAR's branch or best available location record at the time of the registration change. Most moves change platforms, not zip codes.
Suppression
Any firm-and-state cell built from fewer than 3 underlying moves is suppressed rather than displayed, so thin local samples never read as precision.
Coverage
Branch location is available on most, but not all, reported moves; the exact share appears in Source & Method. States are shaded only from located moves.
This window
All advisor moves reported in the last 12 months - a rolling trailing-12-month view. The exact dates appear in the header above.
What counts as a move
Any registered IAR whose firm registration changed during the window. It is a count of registrations, not vetted client-facing advisors, so it can include non-producing registrants such as home-office or supervisory staff.
Directional
These figures describe broad patterns of advisor movement, not audited counts. Use them to spot trends and questions worth exploring, not as a precise scorecard.
