When advisors move

Movement has a rhythm.

Moves are not spread evenly across the year. Loading the latest movement data...

Read this first

These reports track IAR registration-change records from public SEC IAPD data; broker-only representatives are excluded. They reveal directional market patterns - not advisor production, AUM, client movement, satisfaction, or intent.

Each IAR is counted once at their most recent qualifying change in the window. The default competitive view sets aside mergers, rebrands, and platform conversions. How we count

A move means an IAR's registration changed from one firm to another during the window. The reports count registration-change records - not assets, revenue, production, client relationships, or verified advisor transitions.

A single change can be filed under both a broker-dealer and an RIA registration. We count the advisor once rather than once per registration line, so dual registrations are not double-counted.

IAR registration changes can include non-producing, supervisory, home-office, or administrative registrants. Read every figure as a directional movement record, not an audited count of producing advisor transitions.

Our data philosophy

Useful without being overstated.

A $50 million advisor and a $1 billion advisor each count as one registration-change record. That makes these reports a directional view of movement - not a production-weighted league table.

01

Registration records, not announcements

Every figure traces to reported firm-registration changes rather than press releases, AUM estimates, or recruiting claims.

02

Samples shown honestly

Thin samples are flagged, muted, or withheld. Rankings appear only where activity is sufficient for a responsible comparison.

03

Signals, not verdicts

Movement can show where to ask better questions. It cannot determine whether a firm or transition is right for an individual advisor.
